Sensing “the vibe”...what is your's?

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

Have you ever felt a vibe in a room or with a person even before speaking with them?

If yes, you are probably detecting the electromagnetic field produced by their heart.

Using magnetocardiography researchers can measure the electromagnetic field of your heart several feet outside of your body (1). Even more interesting than that, research has demonstrated that your heart can “entrain” or synchronize with the people or animals near you.

Your nervous system automatically detects and syncronizes with the heart field of those around you. That process translates up into your conscious experience as 'feeling a vibe.'

Because of this research a series of questions becomes relevant:

  • What type of field/vibe is your heart generating in and beyond your body? Positive or negative, happy or sad, relaxed or frustrated?

  • What type of field/vibe do the people in your life (employers, colleagues, friends, family) broadcast to you and feel from you?

  • If you, or those you care about broadcast a negative vibe, how can we change that?

Biofeedback technology, which I use in my coaching, enables you to measure the impact of your thoughts on your heart and the energetic field it creates in and around your body. With a small amount of coaching you can then change the energy field created by your heart. This is a simple skill you can learn which will give you a level of control over your nervous system that perhaps you haven’t previously had.

A great example of this is given by one of my clients, Barbara. She was talking with her brother about a stressful family situation that would often cause arguments. During the conversation with her brother Barbara did the breathing meditation I had previously taught her and she reported remaining calm and feeling like she had “more options” during the argument and that those options were de-escalation options. The conversation took a different route to normal and the issues moved a lot closer to resolution. Importantly, Barbara felt that her relationship with her brother had evolved and that her new skill of using the breathing meditation whilst talking, during difficult conversations, was a skill she was confident to keep using.

In the image below from a different client's first coaching session you can see between the 2 and 3 minute mark the symmetry in the pattern of his heart rate. That indicates coherent messaging between his brain and his heart. This illustrates how easy it is to learn these life changing skills! In the first coaching session, during a short 5 minute guided meditation, you will be able to enter the meditative state and with the biofeedback technology I use, you will be able to see what happened in your nervous system during the meditation.

After the first session, progress is simple, its just a matter of:

  1. Remembering the feeling in your body when you were in the meditative state

  2. Practicing the 5 minute exercises every second day

  3. Applying your meditative skills during life's inevitable challenges

Once you have the knowledge and skills to operate in this way you will become much more aware of the subtle changes in your body, the vibe you're broadcasting, and you will also notice the subtle changes in other people's bodies, the vibe they're broadcasting.
